"Woe is me in Tribe Land"

Well, being Ohio fans, my family and I are used to LOTS of disappointment. Our Browns are the only team to never win a Super Bowl. Came close to the Super Bowl, but choked... Our Indians haven't won a World Series pennant since 1948 (and had a movie made about them they were so bad historically). Talk about a big drought! Came close in 1997 and last year, but choked.... see a pattern here?? Our Browns are horrible this year and after coming so close to playing in the World Series last year (1 game away and yes... choked), we are happy to be finishing the season around .500. Sad, huh. Welcome to the lives of Cleveland die-hards. As a Cleveland fan said, the eternal chant in Cleveland is always "NEXT YEAR!!" We had no idea what to do when our KU Jayhawks won the Orange Bowl this year and the NCAA National Championship. My family just sat staring at the TV wondering how to behave. They still haven't figured out what to do.
Well, my Indians had been playing great (after the Royals debacle), sweeping the Twins and the Tigers with some exciting wins. We also came away with an unexpected win at Fenway on Monday night. Talk about playing with all the odds against you. Well, on Tuesday night's game, the Tribe fell apart. They stranded 17 runners. Yeah, that sounds typical of Cleveland teams. And, our beloved Grady has started another hitting slump. He got one hit last night with an RBI, but that's all. And, Asdrubal was on the bench for his suspension in the big Sheffield/Carmona fight. The Sox gave us plenty of opportunities and our boys couldn't produce when it counted. Same story, different game...

We want to offer our heartiest congrats and Woof Woofs (despite our pain, LOL!) to our dear friend Fenway and his Alphas on their berth in the post-season. Maybe some of your team's luck can rub off on my team's someday...


We have a small payroll and just can't seem to get a decent bull-pen or a team that can put it all together. My mom is still thrilled that her hunk Grady will be around until 2011 and is already planning to watch him when he plays the Royals in 2009 (remember the chant "NEXT YEAR"?). Gosh, I have to endure all that Grady talk from her for how many more years??? Sigh. But, as the Indians have found out, baseball is a game that requires BOTH good offense/defense and good pitchers. We have 2 more games in Boston, then play the Chicago White Sox to finish out our season. We just hope we can finish with our heads held high against these top teams and remain around .500.

P.S. On a strange note, the Indians set a MLB record by being hit by pitches. The Tribe was hit 101 times this season, bypassing Houston. And, our dear Grady ended up being the 101st batter hit (that's twice this week). :( Poor Tribe.
